ORLANDO, Fla. --- Paul P. Partyka, managing partner at NAI Realvest and former mayor of Winter Springs, had words of comfort and encouragement for members of the Seminole County Chamber of Commerce Small Business Industry Group, where he was a featured speaker recently.
“I shared my real-life experiences going through tough times in the past,” said Partyka, “and what I learned from it.”
Partyka said the national economic downturn is affecting most business leaders, either directly through business shortfalls and customer declines, or indirectly.
“It’s all the talk these days and it’s easy to get depressed if you’re not thinking ahead,” Partyka said.
Partyka summarized his experiences and his encouragement in a series of “learnings:”
- Move with the opportunity;
- Do not be afraid to ask for advice and help – your friends already know you are in trouble;
- Go out of your comfort zone to look at all opportunities for making money;
- Pay your debts off ASAP – no credit cards. Cash is king in a bad economy;
- When you see trouble, don't wait. Start cutting unnecessary expenses;
- Try something else and invest some money if there is a strong opportunity for a great return;
- Call someone when panic sets in. When you feel like screaming, calm down, think it through, develop a plan and go after it, because there is still business out there;
- Use the resources available to you through the Chamber.
